High Flying Arsenal

We are exactly half way through the season, and it seems that the young players of Arsenal are not letting down. Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger, has for years now stuck to a formula that has always provided entertaining football, bringing countless trophies throughout the years. It was during last summer when Arsenal's top player, Thierry Henry, decided to leave the club and head off to Barcelona. At that point, fans and critics alike believed that Arsenal would have a difficult season and struggle to find goals. The beauty of football however though, is that it is unpredictable. It is a team sport, and when played correctly, a unique admiration for the sport and the players is achieved. It may not be that big in America, but it doesn't change the fact that football is the biggest sport in the world, and that is because the flair and elegance of the game usually tend to overshadow the less admired features of the game. In Arsenal's case, this could not be truer. During one Champions League match, after securing their sixth goal, the commentator went on to say, "Unbelievable, this is perfect football!" With that said, the departure of Henry was a big blow to Arsenal, however Wenger did not panic and gave the young players his commitment and belief. Players such as Cesc Fabregas and Emmanuel Adebayor have come into their own and are quickly rising to become some of the most recognized players in the sport today. They, along with other solid players including Lassana Diara and Eduardo Silva, have taken Arsenal to top of the Barclays English Premier League, above Manchester United and Chelsea, are through to the next round of the Champions League, and have gone on to easily win their FA Cup fixture last night. Arsene Wenger's mentality and football tactics have made him one of the most successful mangers in the game, and unlike Chelsea or even Manchester United who spent millions this summer bringing players in, Arsenal brought more and more players from their youth and are now reaping the benefits. "I believe strongly in these players," Wenger said, "and I'm not surprised by the way they are playing. The players' age average is about 22, and this can only mean good things for the future. Their quick, sharp passing game is one that any defense should be petrified of, and it doesn't help the opposition when you have class finishers such as Adebayor and Van Persie, who between them have netted 17 goals already. They are a team that any fan of football should watch, and any opponent should fear. They are young, motivated, and hungry, and are led by a manager that consistently wants to win. I look forward to the second half of the season during the new year, and I believe it is going to be nothing short of spectacular.
